Weardale Pubs Guide

Some of the great local pubs around Weardale

There’s nothing like a decent pub meal or that early evening drink at ‘beer o’clock’ when on holiday. Most nowadays also have food on offer though this is highly variable. Many of the pubs have other services, which we’ve tried to show here too.  So, here’s a quick guide to the some of the pubs and bars in easy reach of Rookhope.

Rookhope:Ham'n Eggs at the Rookhope Inn

  • Rookhope Inn – The closest to Terrace Cottage is just down the path in the centre of the village. Reasonably priced food, good beers and a roaring fire on winter evenings – 01388 517 215 

Eastgate:

  • Cross Keys, Eastgate, at the junction with the A689 – good Sunday lunches and food for most of the week; real ales; B&B rooms;  – 01388 517234 ‎
  • Horsley Hall – more of a restaurant and country hotel and a bit of a journey via Stanhope as its the other side of the River Wear

Stanhope:

  • Grey Bull West Terrace; real ales with regular guest ales; 01388 526663

Westgate:

  • Teesdale Hotel – 18th Century Coaching Inn with a bit of character and beer garden

Wolsingham

  • Black Lion – guest ales on tap and winner of CAMRA Cider Pub Award 2013, pool table and TV sport; rear garden – 01388 527772
  • Black Bull – opposite the town hall on the market place with food and south facing garden
  • No10 – a decent café on the Market Place – with tables outside in summer to watch the world go by

Heading towards Tynedale

Tynedale Pubs

Some of the more outstanding pubs (usually with food) in Tynedale which are worth a visit when you’re across there:

  • The Rat – actually outside Hexham in Anick village; very good food reputation; real ales;
  • the Sun Inn, again outside at Acomb village

Corbridge

  • The Angel – good food and ale and lots of history
  • Golden Lion
  • Black Bull
  • Errington Arms – further North on the A68 out on the junction with the ‘Military Road’
