Allenheads from up in the hills

from Wikipedia

Allenheads, Northumberland,  is the next village you come to going north out of Rookhope on the way to Allendale. Its a small village but worth a stop at the Hemmel (café), Allenheads Contemporary Arts, The Allenheads Inn and the Heritage Centre.

On the first Saturday of September each year is the Highforest Show, usually with a quoits competition, dog show and children’s attractions and stalls.

Groverake mineLike most settlements in the high Pennines, this was a former leadmining community, with the Beaumont mine being historically the most productive of any in the area, right up until 1981. There is more on lead mining on this Mining website.

Groverake is another that can still be seen on the way between Rookhope and Allenheads.
